Guide to the APCTP Computing Facilities

- Desktop Computers in the Visitors Room
- Desktop computers are running mainly an English version of MS Windows XP Professional.
- You can use the Guest account to logon the Windows.
- If you need any (non-commercial) softwares not installed, please ask the office.
- If you want to use Linux environments,
- Ask the office your own account for the linux box.
- Click the XManager icon on the desktop to access the linux box.
- If you need any other software not installed, please ask to office.
- Printers
- There are two printers on the hallway of the visitors rooms.
- HP LaserJet 5Si (W/B laser printer)
- Epson Stylus Color 880 (Color inkjet printer)
- Scanner
- We have one scanner at the office 501-1.
- E-mail
- You can retrieve e-mails from external mail servers.
- To send e-mail, please use smtp.postech.ac.kr
as the out-going mail server.

- Your Own Laptop Computer
- Caution!!
Electricity outlets in offices supply AC 220V electricity.
If you have brought any device running at 110V,
ask the office for a voltage transformer.
- Network Configuration
- LAN cables are located in each office.
We also support wireless LAN.
- You can (and should) configure your IP and DNS automatically by DHCP.
- If you are using Windows XP
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internel Connections ->
Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties ->
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ->
Select [Obtain an IP address automatically] and
[Obtain DNS server address automatically] -> OK
- Configuration on Windows 2000 / 98 can be done similarly.
- If you are using Windows 98, you need to reboot after the configiration.
- Installing Printers
- If you are using Windows XP,
- Start -> Printers and Faxes -> Add a printer ->
- Local or Network Printer
(*) Local printer attached to this computer
[ ] Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer
( ) A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer
- Select a Printer Port
( ) Use the folowing port:
(*) Create a new port
Type of port: [Standard TCP/IP Port]
- Add Port
- Additional Port Information Required (if appears)
Device Port: [Parallel]
- or -
Device Type
(*) Standard: [Hewlett Packard Jet Direct]
( ) Custom
- Install Printer Software

** If Stylus Color 880 does not appear,
you can safely select 860 instead of 880, which make no problem.
- Use Existing Driver (if appears)
(*) Keep existing driver (recommended)
( ) Replace existing driver
- The following steps are not critical in installing printers. Choose options as you wish.
- Installation on Windows 2000 / 98 can be done similarly
- If you have any problem installing the printers in other OS, such as Linux or MacOS, ask the office.
